Island Retail Monitor

Over the last three years, Island Analysis has been monitoring the retail sectors within Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man. This work covers a range of issues including:

  • consumer confidence trends in each of the islands
  • the retail experience
  • retail spending habits both on and off the islands as well as the growth of Internet shopping.

The Island Retail Monitor is a unique islands' focused reporting process which contains trend data obtained from island residents (a representative sample of 1,500 survey participants, 500 in each island). In addition, qualitative feedback is regularly obtained from a cross-section of retailers in the three islands and a mystery shopper programme is undertaken on a quartely basis.

The information is published every quarter. In addition, the opening of new retail outlets as well as closures within each of the islands is being logged using a digital mapping process.  This information is updated annually.

The Main benefits of the Island Retail Monitor are:

  • cost effective access to key retail market intelligence in Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man,
  • ability to benchmark and compare the retail markets in the three islands on an ongoing basis,
  • track consumer purchasing trends by receiving up-to-date consumer and retailer trend data,
  • improve business planning by keeping abreast of local retail market trends,
  • more cost effective marketing spend as a result of being better informed.
