2012 Release 6 Other Economic Sectors

In Island Monitor Releases 4 and 5, the finance and tourism sectors of islands were reviewed. Release 6 covers the other economic sectors of the fourteen islands. Many of these sectors can be described as the ‘traditional’ island industries such as fishing, agriculture and horticulture, manufacturing, construction and retail.

Every island, to a greater or lesser extent, has been actively attempting to diversify its economic base by trying to attract new activities such as e-commerce services, e-gaming, aircraft and ship registration, specialist manufacturing, film production, and so on.

An analysis of these other industries is set out in this Release including their value in terms of economic contribution and employment opportunities. In addition, government policy and investment in these economic sectors is highlighted where applicable.
